Collection: Essential New Zealand Albums

From the outset of recorded music in 1920's, New Zealand musicians have been captured on record. In the 1950's as the pop music grew, 78rpm records were replaced with the new 33rpm 12" records and 45rpm 7" records. Pop vocal and country music was predominant until the explosion of Rock 'n' Roll, but all types of music has been written and recorded in Aotearoa from traditional Maori music to the most Avant-Garde music of tomorrow. NZ records were pressed here until the last record pressing plant closed in 1987 but NZ music continues to be pressed elsewhere. This small collection features some of the most popular NZ music, new and old, that is available on vinyl at the moment.
