After releasing the willfully confrontational feminist post-punk classic "Cut" (and summarily being dropped by Island), this trailblazing all-female band recorded this even more radical 1981 LP for Sony. Here, they added world music and free jazz to their atonal vocals, skittering guitar and dub bass on "Earthbeat," "Or What It Is?," "Face Place," "Walk About," "Difficult Fun," "Life on Earth" and more. Not surprisingly, Sony dropped this like a hot potato, refusing to even release it in the U.S. In the years since, though, this LP has steadily grown in reputation, even as its CD availability has been sporadic. This major "riot grrrl" inspiration arrives here on CD (new remastering and notes) or fluorescent yellow vinyl with the original printed inner sleeve (vinyl is limited to 1000 copies)! Real Gone Music.
